A Basic Blackjack Quiz

This quiz is designed for Blackjack newbies who are struggling to learn to play Blackjack. But seasoned
players will also find it very refreshing for their skills. Here goes:

Welcome to this short Blackjack quiz everybody. This quiz is not intended to rate you on your knowledge of
Blackjack. Rather, it is designed to help you learn to play Blackjack effectively. This quiz is based on the Blackjack basic strategy, but is different from other quizzes because it not only tells you “what to do” but also tells you “why to do so.”

Q1: What would you do if you are dealt a pair of 9s, and the dealer’s up card is a 9?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d) Split

Ans: The correct answer is (d) Split.
Though 18 is pretty close to 21, your chances of winning are 41% and the chances of losing are 59%. Furthermore, when you split, you have two hands with 9 as the first card. Your chances of winning increase
to 47% and the chances of losing  decreases to 53%. So, it’s preferred that you split your pair.

Q2: Your hand total is 15 and the dealer is showing a 7, 8, or 9, what should you do?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d)Split

Ans: The correct answer is (b) Hit.
According to basic Blackjack strategy, you should hit if the dealer shows a 7, 8, or 9. But if the dealer shows a 10 value card, you should go for a split, if allowed, otherwise hit.

Q3: The dealer is showing a 7 and your hand contains a 10 and a 6. What would you better do?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d) Split

Ans: The correct answer is (b) Hit. Blackjack players usually follow this unwritten rule: hit if your
hand total is 16 or less,  otherwise stand.

Q4: Your hand contains a 10 and 2 and dealer shows a 2. What do you think is the correct action to follow?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d) Split

Ans: The option (b) Hit is the right choice. Your chances of getting busted are quite less. Only a 10
value card will lead to a bust.  Any other card of lower value is favorable. You can get 21 or a hand closest to 21. So you should draw or Hit another card. Remember, if the dealer’s card is higher than 3,
you should stand and not hit with a hand total of 12.

Q5: You hold two Kings, or any two 10 value cards. The dealer has an Ace and asks you for an insurance. Would you go for it?

(a) Yes (b) No

Ans: The correct answer is (b) No. Insurance does seem like a good choice but it is not. Even if your
cards are different, you should not go for insurance. Insurance pays 2 to 1 on your insurance bet  if the dealer indeed comes up with a Blackjack. But if the dealer fails to come up with a Blackjack, you lose your insurance bet. If you look at it from another angle, you see that if you win the insurance bet, you are bound to lose you other bet because the dealer’s Blackjack will eventually beat your hand. So you only break even.  Also, just because the dealer’s up card is an Ace does not mean the dealer will come up with a
Blackjack.

Q6: Imagine that you are holding a pair of 10s. The dealer’s visible card is also a 10. What action should you take?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d)Split

Ans: The correct answer is (a) Stand. Regardless of the dealer’s up card, always stand. To cut a long joke short, a man at a Blackjack table asked a woman standing next to him, “What is the perfect time to split 10s?” The woman replied,  “When you want to vacate your seat.”  Jokes apart, 20 is a pretty good hand. The only hand that can beat a 20 is 21 or a Blackjack. So, you had better stand and hope for a win.

Q7: You are dealt a pair of 5s and the dealer is showing a 6. What is a good action to follow?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d) Split

Ans: Option (c) Double is the right answer. Just pretend that you are dealt a 10. The highest card that
you can get is 10 or an Ace. In both these cases, your hand will total 20 or 21. Your chances of getting “too many” is next to impossible. So, you should double down and take a chance to win a relatively bigger amount.

Q8: You are dealt a hand that contains an Ace and 7, the dealer is showing a 5. What should you go for?

(a) Stand  (b) Hit  (c) Double  (d)Split

Ans: You get full marks if you say (c) Double. The figure 18 is quite close to 21 but the statistics say
that you can make 10% more money in the long run by doubling down each time on a set of Ace and 7, if you consider it a soft hand (where Ace is equal to 11). Besides, the dealer has more chances of getting “too many” with a 5, as he cannot opt to stand, until he hits 17 as per rule s in most casinos.

Well that’s the end of the quiz. You are not going to get any grades for your performance though. The
purpose of the quiz is to make you aware of the possible actions that you can take in different situations. Now you can go ahead and apply your knowledge learned through this quiz on a fresh game of Blackjack. Play Blackjack online for some time and see for yourself how helpful the quiz really is.

Move to Legalize Online Casinos in the US

This may be the beginning of a new beginning for online gambling. As you all know, the US had banned Internet gambling in 2006. House Financial Services chairman, Barney Frank is introducing a Bill that could pave the way to legalize online casinos in the US through a licensing and regulatory regime.

Ironically, the ban has not stopped US citizens from gambling at online gaming sites operating from offshore locations. With the recession making a dent in the American economy, everyone is thinking of new ways to bring in revenues. In fact, a PricewaterhouseCoopers study has estimated that the US government can raise more than $ 50 billion from taxes in ten years.

Citing the tax revenues that online gambling can bring, Frank has been quoted in media reports saying rather optimistically about the proposed legislation, “The more people need revenue, the better chance it has.”

Though an earlier effort in 2007 failed, some believe that Frank’s efforts may not be in vain this time round.  It is expected that the Obama government may amend the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act at the very least as the Democrats are perceived as pro-gambling, compared to Republicans.

Internationally, the law has been faulted as a violation of the World Trade Organisation norms.

At home, it is argued that the present law does not define what constitutes unlawful online gambling. For instance, online horse betting is allowed.

Though there is a ban on processing of payments that favor online gambling, it has been dubbed an enforcement nightmare. Most often, the onus is on the online casino and players to reconcile the state and federal laws to determine the legal status of their actions.

Banks have also found it difficult to toe the line and have been accused of over-conforming by keeping out state run lotteries as well.

However anti-online gambling lobbies, including the National Football League and the Christian Coalition are also working overtime to mobilize public opinion against legalizing online gambling.

Meanwhile, the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative which is backing the Bill has highlighted the consumer friendly clauses that seeks to prevent addiction, fraud, identity theft and underage gambling.

Be that as it may, you are well aware that Cool Cat Casino is one of the websites which has always welcomed all US players and has put in place payment mechanisms which are acceptable to them, on the condition that they gamble responsibly and in accordance with local jurisdiction. That will not change much, will it?

Trust Your Intuition, Play Multi-Hand Video Poker

I am really passionate about video poker…now! But this was not always the case. In the beginning, I was over-cautious and played a single hand –hesitant to wager a lot, afraid to lose and not daring enough to take risks. Gradually, I started playing online video poker, but still stuck to the one-hand option. Once — it was by sheer mistake –that I clicked on the three-hand option while playing Jacks or Better. To my utter surprise, I bagged a Royal Flush. In all my years of playing the game, I had never once managed to get a maximum payout.

It was not as if I was ignorant of the rules of the game. I always knew that to play video poker I was required to bet a certain number of coins to get dealt five cards. I also knew activating the maximum bet would ultimately trigger larger payouts on the higher-ranked hands. However, I stuck to the minimum bets and played a “safe” game, under the mistaken notion that not losing much was akin to winning.

I would of course have my moments of joy and entertainment. The game is such that anyone will derive some pleasure for sure. For instance, I loved it when I got a Two Pair or a Jacks or Better. That was quite a frequent occurrence. Three-of-a-kind was a bonus for me, and Straight, Flush , Full House and Four-of-A-Kind were very rare. A Straight Flush was a distant dream, leave alone a Royal Flush.

Looking back, I think I played the game mechanically –I chose cards to hold, and drew poker cards to replace other cards without strategy and planning. Some video poker games which had the wild card option –maybe a two, a seven or a Joker – were my favorite. As they acted as substitutes for any card, it made my game easier. But a single hand was all I could handle.

After my Royal Flush win, I began to opt for multi-hand video poker more often. I soon realized that

I could play with 10 , 52 and 100 hands. The results were awesome and I really felt I was maximizing my chances of winning.

Soon, I became a votary of multi-hand video poker and now waste no time in advising others to go for it. True, Jacks or Better or Deuces Wild are known for a relatively higher payout percentage –they even touch 100% at times –but in my opinion trying multiple hands on any video poker game affords greater chances of winning. If you ask experts, they would probably say the odds are the same. But then I think one should also trust one’s intuition and take risks.

Time to Explode Popular Roulette Myths

Spin the wheel, place your bets and wait for the ball to fall into a pocket. That is all there is to roulette. The game is designed in such a way that it is obvious that it is based on sheer chance. Still, people gather around the roulette table with excitement and await the outcome with bated breath. This no doubt adds to the entertainment value of the game, but unfortunately, it also gives rise to several myths.

Let me help you analyze the many myths associated with this amazing game. You will see for yourself what I mean.

A Mathematical System Can Help You Win Roulette

You can try out as many permutations and combinations that you wish. Yet, the fact remains that chance is the only factor that determines the roll of the ball. All that Math can do is calculate the odds. And let me tell you the odds of every roulette bet is exactly the same on the next spin as it was on the spin before. And that is 1 out of 38. Try predicting the outcome of a spin based on this…you simply cannot. This is true both in online roulette and land-based.

Look Out For the Dealer’s Signature

This concerns land-based casinos. People theorize that it is possible for the dealer to spin the wheel in a certain way, after all they do it every day of their lives! But is it really humanly possible to do so to ensure a certain outcome, repeatedly? Use your common sense, a dealer’s signature, if it does exist cannot help you win. Also, the wheel is checked and calibrated, oh-so-often that is becomes impossible to manipulate it. So while the wheel can be affected by friction, air pressure, motion, balance and so on, it remains random.

This Number is Due, it Has Not Been Hit For Long

As mentioned earlier, the probability of a number being hit remains constant –1 in 38, if it is an American wheel and 1 in 37, if it is European roulette. Just because a number or color has not been hit, it does not mean the next hit will reveal that number or color. Remember, the ball has no memory.

Go For a Wide-Bet

Let us say you place a bet on half the numbers on an American Roulette table. With 19 numbers ‘covered’ you probably think you have a good chance of winning. Let us further say you have bet $1 on each of the 19 spots. You get lucky and hit ONE spot. Let us further assume that you win $35 on the 35:1 bet. Which means you earned a $17 profit (remember, you lost $18 on the spots that you failed to hit). Let us say you lose. You will be poorer by $19. Even if you have a huge appetite for risk, you are most likely to lose more than you win if you seriously pursue this strategy!

Insurance For the Gambling Fever

Pigs are good news for insurance companies these days. With the swine flu sending tremors up the spine, insurance companies are seeing brisk business. Seems like anyone who has to travel is seeking insurance cover. There is no telling where the dreaded influenza A(H1N1) virus is lurking.

With more than a 100 cases reported in the US, schools are closing down. Despite the insurance, people hesitate to take risks. Perhaps that explains the sudden influx of traffic we are seeing at www.coolcat-casino.com.

We hear people are staying indoors at Arizona, California, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas –where suspected swine flu cases have been reported. When you are home-bound, the best thing to do is visit a good online casino like Cool Cat Casino.

If there are insurance policies to protect you from terrorism, natural disasters, job loss and even swine flu, then why not against the money that you risk while gambling?

We have just unveiled insurance plans afresh at the casino:

Make a $100 deposit, and rest assured with a 100% bonus insurance.

If you shell out $250 as deposit, you can avail a 150% bonus insurance.

So, don’t worry…just relax and gamble fearlessly with our generous insurance plans this month.

Beware, There is a Dino in the Chicken

Heard about it? It is all over the scientific world. Chicken is a descendant of the mighty dinosaur T-Rex, the Jurassic age “king without a crown.” Scientists have uncovered and sequenced a set of proteins belonging to the 80-million-year-old remains of a duck-billed hadrosaur. This is the same team of paleontologists which linked Tyrannosaurus rex to chickens, frogs and newts. So they are exultant that their original theory may be true after all. Don’t believe it?

Well, it’s true, but you don’t have to chicken out of your chicken soup. You can in fact go ahead and enjoy more chicken –be it grilled, fried, or roasted and stirred in sauce! And when you have a stupendous $10,000 free chip by your side, the chicken will taste the best ever.

All month long, you can accept the T-Rex Slots Challenge at CoolCat Casino and win $10,000 free casino chip.

But if you do decide to aim for the $10,000 free chips, make sure you wager the deposit plus bonus amount by 120x. If you go on to win it, remember there is a 30x playthrough requirement with a 1x max cashout.

Every once in a while an offer comes up that defies the odds. This is one of them. Don’t close your eyes and ignore it. Take your best shot and claim your $10,000 casino chip, cause it’s not going to wait forever.
